Psalm 14 paints a clear image on who is a fool. It is important to know who the Lord says would qualify themselves as a fool, just as it is important o understand who God qualifies as wise. To understand the former, allows you to see what not to do and what not to say. Just like everything in life we are faced with this choice and no one can force us to follow this path. We choose to go down a path that brings pain, separation, and a feeling of grossness or seek a better way.

Verse 1 clearly defines a fool as someone who says there is no God. We have many men and women in positions of power that have made and continue to make that statement. In the workplace, in the government (local, state and federal), and religious leaders. All of those people who not just walk that lonely path but also tell people there is no God would also be called a false teacher.

When one becomes a fool, they become a fool completely. When you turn away from God, you live in total darkness, there is no night light to give a warm glow. Anyone who is now a born-again believer was once in that place, but God! God is the one that can bring you into the light and turn a fool, wise. In verse 5 in the Amplified translation it says, “There they tremble with great fear, For God is with the [consistently] righteous generation.”

An important word in that is consistently. Consistently does not mean 100% of the time at 100% percent all of the time, but it means “standing together or in agreement” (Webster’s 1828). That brings new light to who they (the foolish) tremble with great fear. The One they deny is standing with those who proclaim His name! Find peace in this truth and know that the Almighty stands with you when you walk into His marvelous light.

God cannot walk with those in darkness but that doesn’t mean He does not love them. He loves and cares for all of His children, but our choices are our own. Salvation is there for you. That salvation in verse 7 has already come out of Zion and His name is Jesus. Salvation came for the Hebrews first and is available to all now, even the fool.

Seek God and there you will find peace!
